Jo Humphreys
Choral Director
Jo has twin boys, Josh and Sam, at Chase Bridge School and took over the choir in 2021. She has been involved in music her whole life gaining a music degree from the Royal College of Music where she studied piano and violin. Jo has sung in many choirs over the years as well as being a choral accompanist, and it was therefore logical that her next step would be to become a choral director
Jo's thoughts...
“I have sung with the choir since 2017, a few months after it was set up, and I have enjoyed every single minute making music alongside a terrific group of people, who have become good friends of mine. We work hard in rehearsals but at the same time the jokes and the banter ensure that there is plenty of laughter, and I was therefore very excited to be asked to take over from the previous director. This choir is a small but talented group of singers who are an absolute pleasure to rehearse with. Even though there is a real mixture of people, from those who have never sung in a choir before through to experienced musicians it really works, and the sound they make brings me real joy. No matter how tired I am or what kind of day I’ve had this choir always puts a smile back on my face. This is a great choir to sing with and so if you are reading this I hope you will come along and try us out. I look forward to welcoming you.”

I’m new to choir this term, having been intending to join all year. I’ve definitely joined at the right time though as this term we’re doing show tunes like Les Mis, which is great fun to holler your heart out to. I’m really enjoying choir – I’ve done a fair bit of musical am dram in the past so it’s good to just sing and learn harmony lines although I’m hoping we’ll be able to add in some dance moves at some point!
Tuesday night is one of the few moments I have for myself. I enjoy it very much, it’s challenging, emotional and enlightening and imbues me with a very nice vibe.
I have never sung in a choir before – in fact, it’s still up for debate about whether I can actually sing! Regardless, I enjoy singing. I have fun at choir and I even manage to learn a few things about music along the way. There’s a great atmosphere each week.

“I’ve been a member of this choir since it’s started and in that time I’ve had so much fun and have become much more confident in my singing abilities. What I enjoy most about this choir is that although the atmosphere is very relaxed we all take the singing and the committment seriously and want to do the best we can – with fantastic results!”
